The working side of Leos

Leonbergers are a very versatile breed and enjoy all aspects of working. These activities use your dog's brain and stop them getting bored. Having fun is very important for both you and your Leo.

Water training: Your leo is introduced to the water and is taught the fundamentals of water rescue, how to rescue people, how to pull in a boat, how to retrieve articles. There are several leos that have attained high honours in these tests.

Carting: This describes itself. A leo is very adept at learning to pull carts. This can be used in displays, as a working exercise or just to help you pull logs from the woods to your fireplace. If a leo is happy carting then he will enjoy all aspects of this.

Obedience: Leos are gradually being recognised in the obedience field and are proving to be very good, field trials as well as general obedience.

Agility: This is also enjoyed by leos but don't forget that due to their growth rate this cannot be started until they are over a year.

Flyball: One of our older leonbergers gained his flyball championship titles and excelled at this, enjoying every minute of it.

Dancing to music: Several leos are now in these competitions and as this is a relatively new experience in training we are very proud of them.

If you would like further information the LCGB Working Section will be able to help you.
